In June 2015 the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo will be marked by a series of major commemorative events in Belgium and across Europe. At the end of this eventful month the Centre for Eighteenth Century Studies at the University of York in co-operation with the National Army Museum will host a major international and interdisciplinary conference Waterloo: Representation and Memory, 1815-2015.
Das Thema "Kriegskinder" erlebt seit einigen Jahren einen frappierenden Boom, der sich etwa in zahlreichen Publikationen und diversen Ausstellungsprojekten manifestiert. Freilich ist dieser vornehmlich mit der Weltkriegsforschung verbunden. Insbesondere der Zweite Weltkrieg fand - befördert durch populärwissenschaftliche Arbeiten - breites Interesse.
The University of Leeds is planning a major international conference to consider and debate the various forms and expressions of resistance to the First World War within and across national contexts. It will coincide with the introduction of conscription in Britain, but will explore national, international and transnational aspects of resistance to the First World War.
There will be panels on:
- the cultural representations of pacifism and the mobilization of art and literature to oppose the war
In einer international vergleichenden Perspektive wird auf dieser wissenschaftlichen Konferenz den Hintergründen und Folgen von "Vergeltungsaktionen" in den während des Zweiten Weltkrieges von Deutschland besetzten Ländern nachgegangen. Einbezogen werden dabei auch Strukturen der Besatzungspolitik sowie Formen des Widerstands und der Kollaboration in den jeweiligen Ländern.
2014 marked the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War - a catastrophe that casts a shadow over us until the present day. The aim of the 2015 military history conference of the Estonian War Museum (General Laidoner Museum) is to study the fundamentally changed security situation in Europe, which formed as a result of the war, the kind of which had never been seen before.
The organizers are looking forward to papers about the following topics:
1. Post-war conflicts: civil wars, freedom wars and paramilitary violence
In this paper, Richard Bassett will explore the eccentricities and structure of an institution whose study offers many insights for historians of Europe and students of literature.
Am 8. Mai 2015 jährt sich zum 70. Mal das Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Zahlreiche Gedenkfeiern und wissenschaftliche Tagungen über die Befreiung Europas vom Nationalsozialismus sind zu erwarten, aber noch immer gibt es eine Bevölkerungsgruppe, die als sogenannter 'Kollateralschaden' des Krieges aus dem kollektiven Gedächtnis der Nationen schlichtweg herausfällt.
Im Jahre 1815 kehrte der entthrone Kaiser Napoleon nach Frankreich zurück und drohte dem bereits verwüsteten und erschöpften Kontinent mit einem weiteren Krieg. Bei Waterloo standen sich die hastig mobilisierten Armeen gegenüber, um über die Zukunft Europas zu entscheiden - Napoleons Kräfte auf der einen Seite und der Herzog von Wellington sowie Blücher auf der anderen.
The International Bibliography of Military History invites submissions for its IBMH Early-Career Paper Prize.
The Prize will be awarded to an academic article of outstanding quality in the field of international military history written by a graduate student or an early-career scholar. The author of the winning article will receive a €1000 cash prize, and the article will be published in an issue of the International Bibliography of Military History within one year.
