Der Erste Weltkrieg gilt vielen bis heute als die "Urkatastrophe" des 20. Jahrhunderts und auch deshalb wird 2014 mit zahlreichen Projekten an den 100. Jahrestag seines Beginns erinnert werden. Das ZMSBw nimmt dies zusammen mit dem Studiengang "Military Studies" der Universität Potsdam zum Anlass, die vielfältigen Perspektiven neuer Forschungsprojekte bzw. -ansätze zum Ersten Weltkrieg in einem interdisziplinären Workshop vorzustellen sowie zu debattieren.
The historiographies on war and protest are still largely separated. Clausewitz"s famous aphorism is conventionally applied to military history and high politics. However, it also points to the political means employed by those who, for various reasons, disagreed with the use of force to compel an enemy. In the final revision of his unfinished manuscript Vom Kriege, Clausewitz acknowledged this factor: "War is simply the continuation of political intercourse with the addition of other means.
The Twentieth century was fertile in experiences on the power of propaganda in war context. From the First World War to the Spanish Civil War, the Second World War, the Portuguese Colonial War, the ColdWar, the war in Bosnia and the Gulf war, there were several occasions where propaganda stud itself as one of the combat arms. The First World War was the first conflict where the States realized for the first time the importance ofpropaganda as an instrument of war. It then becomes clear the importance and potential of graphic communication.

Since the end of the 19th century Africa stood out as an agent in the globalization process; acting both as an element of direct action, particularly through the exploitation of its natural resources in the widest sense possible, but also through the unique features of its political situation as regards international relations. The Encyclopedia of American Military History is being updated to reflect events since September 11, 2001 and the onset of the Global War on Terror. A number of new entries are required, as well as a several existing entries that need updating.

April, nähert sich das Militärhistorische Museum der Bundeswehr in Dresden diesem Großverband, dessen Geschichte weit über die Schlacht von Stalingrad hinausreicht. Dr. Christian Hartmann (Autor von "Wehrmacht im Ostkrieg") vom Institut für Zeitgeschichte in München trägt zur Organisations- und Sozialstruktur der 6. Armee vor und zeichnet ein präzises Bild jener Soldaten, die in der Schlacht um Stalingrad ums Leben kamen oder in Gefangenschaft gerieten.
From Enemies to Allies (FETA) commemorates the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the resulting two-century special relationship between the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. During this three-day conference, more than 50 scholars from the three nations will present the most current and distinguished scholarship on the causes, conduct and consequences of the War of 1812, and topics ranging from "Privateers" and "Women and War" to "The Enslaved Chesapeake" and "The Naval War."
