Nachkriegszeit

After the Second World War, the United States invested a large amount of US tax revenues into reconstruction across almost all of Europe. In this context, the successful economic redevelopment induced by the European Recovery Program is still remembered. However, after the foundation of NATO in 1949 the Western European allies sought for more US-aid. Due to the success of the ERP the Eisenhower administration came up with a similar plan to build up the West German armed forces, the so-called "Nash-Commitment".

Am 4. und 5. Oktober 2019 fand an der Universität Siegen die Tagung „Kriegsversehrungen im 20. Jahrhundert in europäischer Perspektive“ statt. Die wissenschaftliche Leitung der Tagung hatten NOYAN DINÇKAL (Universität Siegen, Historisches Seminar) und SABINE SCHLEIERMACHER (Charité Berlin, Forschungsschwerpunkt Zeitgeschichte, Institut für Geschichte der Medizin und Ethik in der Medizin).
