On 20 october 2014, a colloquium about the local and regional history of the Great War and the context beyond the battle of 1914 will be organised at the State Archives in Mons in collaboration with the Archives and the Museum Pole of the City of Mons.

Some of the subjects the organisers wish to deal with: the commemoration places, the presence of French refugees or the Canadian Army in 1918, the resistance networks, economic life during the occupation, and the historical value of private archives, using most recent research findings in particular from historians, professionals and passionate amateurs, who are able to shed new light on the commemorations and reality of this period of time of which some aspects are still hardly known. The geographical scope of the subject corresponds to the judicial district of Mons.

The proceedings of this colloquium will be published. Papers (2000 to 5000 characters) can be submitted together with a a short bio-/bibliography to the secretary of the organising committee: pierre-jean.niebes@arch.be
