Geoffrey Vesey-Holt: The First Tanks in History - Tank Development & The Battle of Flers
To mark the 100th anniversary of the first use of Tanks in warfare, Geoffrey Vesey-Holt present a talk that looks at the early stages of tank development and how they were used at the Battle of Flers in September 1916.
Lt Col (Retd) Geoffrey Vesey-Holt MBE was commissioned into the Royal Tank Regiment in 1974. During the Cold War he held several positions, including that of Armoured Squadron Leader. In 1990 he was involved in developing the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank and served as a S.O. 2 at the Armoured Trials and Development Unit, Bovington. He is currently working on a two volume history of the Royal Tank Regiment.
